Introducing young New Zealand fashion designer Anita Jones & her exciting new fashion label - Altered Ego Design

Altered Ego Design // Anita Jones - New Zealand Fashion Designer

Altered Ego Design's style could be described as a little bit of tailoring, a little bit of kiwi ingenuity, with quirky wearable art style finishes. Inspired by the areas of French Pass & d'Urville Island - the outermost part of the Marlborough Sounds. French Pass is full of history from Captain Dumont d'Urville narrowly escaping shipwreck & "Pelorous Jack", the dolphin who guided ships out to sea through these dangerous waters.

The "portholes" in the collection comes from the ships & "Elmslie" is the French Pass settlement of Elmslie Bay. Paua & other shells for garments were collected from this beach.

A tribute to Maori history inspired the merino "Mana" feather top - a reference to the "korowai" or Maori Cloak. The skirt has portholes cut out and paua shells encased in gold silk organza, similar to the brass portholes in ships. The merino shell tops are variations on the theme with shells worn in the sleeves & chest in a scoop or v-neck.

Our fashion garments are New Zealand made and are warm & comfortable to wear. Our Collection resonates with your personal style rather than following a particular trend.

Anita gained her qualification in Fashion Design and Technology at the Wellington School of Design (now Massey University). She won a NZ Post Scholarship in her first year and in her second year was selected to show at the prestigious Benson & Hedges Fashion Design Awards. From working in the industry as a designer and patternmaker, Anita left to persue design in other fields of graphics and animation. After years of having people complementing her own personal style, Anita has once again stepped into the fashion arena with her Winter 2006 collection ready to launch at the Air NZ Fashion Week in Auckland from 18th to 21st October 2006.
