Paul Laird // Contemporary Ceramic Artist and Sculptor

Long established Paul Laird is a second generation 'potter' and ceramic artist. Many of you may recognise Paul's contemporary and often abstract sculptural ceramic works from the Craft Habitat, the former home of his working studio and art gallery in Nelson, New Zealand.

Picasso, Miro, Chigal are his main artistic inspirations, however, Paul draws a great deal from his surroundings such as Musical images related to family muscians and, like a voyeur, watching peoples faces. Simple abstract forms also fascinate Paul, simple processes that are gravity related such as a ball bouncing or an object falling.

Future ideas include practical purposes high fires stoneware, suitable for outdoors, reasonable temperate, matt & satin finishes - not high gloss. Combinations of materials such as glass ceramics water features - he also hopes to do more of.
